Wild weather affects all corners of the world, but how do you prepare if your planning also includes managing a rare or serious disease? We asked patients who have lived through serious weather events to share their advice.

Some patient advocacy groups offer detailed advice for weather emergencies. Here are two of them:

If possible, keep extra medication on hand, just in case. Keep a complete list of medications and medical contacts. Let your power supplier know if your medical needs require electricity. Heed orders to evacuate. Accept help from others. Stay positive.
