Webinar offers rare disease patients a chance to ask questions about insurance plans.

It’s the time of year when U.S. consumers are presented with choices about which health insurance plan to choose. And that decision brings a lot of questions about benefits, premiums, deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses.

 

The National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) is offering a free educational webinar on Tuesday, October 30 designed for patients who have rare diseases and their caregivers. NORD staffers Paul Melmeyer and Tim Boyd, both experts on healthcare policy, will offer advice and take questions.

CSL Behring’s Kris McFalls helps rare disease patients navigate the complexities of health insurance coverage. What’s her top tip for choosing a plan?

 

“I would encourage patients to look at the whole picture by doing the math,” said McFalls, who is a member of the company’s U.S. Reimbursement Team.

 

Don’t rule out any plan until you have calculated the cost of premiums and out-of-pocket maximums for all scenarios, she said. Also weigh additional factors such as provider networks and prescription drug lists to make the best decision for you, McFalls said.
