More than 100 of our company scientists recently took a pause to listen to Kyle Smith share his story of life with sickle cell disease. In this clip, he explains how a simple trip to the movies touched off a crisis that put him in the hospital.
Smith, 31, is co-founder of the Crescent Foundation, a nonprofit community-based organization focused on helping sickle cell patients navigate their condition. Leaders in sickle cell care lauded the foundation for its recent work in educating patients about the benefits of getting a COVID-19 vaccine.
