To Turn Inward or Reach Out?

Alpha 1 patient – and advocate for others – Richard Lovrich shares his philosophy about coping with a rare disease.

Story

For someone diagnosed with a rare disease, the first, understandable impulse might be to turn inward and focus on yourself.

While attention to your own health and well-being is a must, Richard Lovrich recommends flipping the script. Though he’s managing the rare disease Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, which can seriously impact breathing, he makes a conscious effort to help others. Lovrich is an energetic advocate for those who have Alpha 1 and often uses his artistic eye to take their photos at disease awareness events. Hear his advice in the video above and check out more content about Lovrich and his big, creative life.
