When it’s Super Bowl week, everyone has something to say - even scientific trade associations.
The science and biotech community isn’t known for trash-talking, but Life Sciences Pennsylvania made it personal when it proposed a wager with the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council. The bet includes a food and beer swap, plus the customary wearing of the other team’s jersey.
“Since the Eagles are going to win the Super Bowl, I will place my order with you now for some clam chowder from the Union Oyster House,” Life Sciences Pennsylvania CEO Chris Molineaux wrote in a letter to the CEO of MassBio.
Burn.
A representative from the losing state must wear the winning team’s jersey and do a walk of shame at an upcoming scientific industry conference. In addition, if Philadelphia wins, they get clam chowder and a case of beer from Boston’s Harpoon Brewing Co. If New England wins, they’ll enjoy cheesesteaks and case of beer from Philadelphia's Yards Brewing Co.

“Yo Eagles fans! Here’s to a good game and hoping that the halftime show isn’t the highlight of the evening. It’s been 13 years since our last Super Bowl meeting - a lot has changed, but a lot has stayed the same (Tom Brady). GO PATS!!!”
